Can I get a car at Nice airport late at night?
Official taxis wait at the ranks on the arrivals level (gate A1 at Terminal 1, gate A3 at Terminal 2), but late in the evening the queue can be long or the rank empty after several flights land together. Ride-hailing apps depend on how many drivers are connected at that moment. The only way to be sure a car is waiting is to book a private driver in advance with your flight number.
A French private driver (VTC) cannot pick up passengers who have not booked: it is the law. In return, a booked driver is there for you, follows your landing time and waits in the arrivals hall.
Night fares: what to expect
Azuriva VTC uses a published scale: €10 pick-up charge, then €1.50 per km in the Alpes-Maritimes (06), €2.50 per km in the Var (83) and €1.80 per km in Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël, plus tolls. From 9 pm to 7 am, and on Sundays and public holidays, a surcharge of 20 % is added (the two are never combined). Examples:
| From Nice airport to | Daytime | Night (9 pm to 7 am) |
|---|---|---|
| Cannes, Palais des Festivals | €57 | €67 |
| Monaco, Place du Casino | €61 | €73 |
| Antibes, Port Vauban | €53 | €63 |
| Saint-Tropez, Old Port | €242 | €289 |
The fare is for the car, up to 4 passengers, tolls included, and it is confirmed when you book.
Landing late: what if my flight is delayed?
This is the classic case: your 10 pm flight lands at 1 am. With your flight number, your driver follows the real arrival time and adjusts the pick-up. You do not need to call or rebook. If the flight is cancelled or diverted, send a message and the transfer is rescheduled.
Early-morning departures: how to plan
- Book the day before at the latest, ideally as soon as you know your flight.
- Agree the pick-up time with your driver, taking into account check-in, baggage drop and security.
- Have your luggage ready at the hotel entrance or villa gate: at 4 am, every minute counts.
From Monaco or Cannes, there is little traffic before dawn, but your driver always keeps a safety margin.
What about the tram and buses?
Tram line 2 links both terminals to central Nice in under 30 minutes and is the cheapest option during its service hours. Check the timetable on the Lignes d'Azur website before your trip: in the middle of the night, it is not an option, and buses to Cannes, Antibes or Monaco are not designed for late arrivals with luggage.
Night arrivals with children
Landing at midnight with tired children is the situation where a booked car makes the biggest difference. Mention the children's ages when you book: a child seat can be provided on request. Your driver helps with the luggage and pushchair, and you go straight from the arrivals hall to the car.
Night trips to the Var
Late flights to Nice are common for travellers heading to Saint-Tropez, Sainte-Maxime or Fréjus. Public transport options are very limited at that time and the journey takes around two hours. A pre-booked driver is the most reliable way to reach your villa the same night, with the fare known before you take off.
Your driver, Sébastien, is French and drives every booking himself. English messages by WhatsApp or email are welcome, including on the night of your trip.
